New age of media: bigger than you think

We are moving toward the new age of media.  Majority of social media platforms focus on developing individualized information – accurately matching up the users’ individual interests with very specific information and quickly spread the focus topics.   In the academic article “Social Media and Symbolic Action: Exploring Participation in the Facebook Red Equal Sign Profile Picture Campaign. “  by Penney and Joel.  Authors discussed a typical example regarding a symbolic action on popular social media platform as well as explore the entire process of the campaign.   Facebook successfully promote the ” Red Equal Sign Profile Picture campaign.”  It seems that Facebook expand the information channels through develop new media products as well as quickly spreading out the focus topics.

China’s media giants may agree on that – the new age of media have influence on China’s political system and structure of governance.  In the article ” Internet Events, Social media and National Security in China” by Peter Hayes and Roger Cavazos.  The article discussed how China block oversea internet promotes the development of domestic social media platform.  Authors mentioned “Wechat” – known as a inter-phone communication platform and social internet media platform.  It is the fact that Wechat changes Chinese telecommunication landscape as well as serving as a generally-recognized internet media platform to boosts the transparency of the information in the country.  Another generally accepted social media platform – “Weibo” provide a fair platform for everyone to post information.  It seems as though both “Wechat” and ” Weibo” creates a balanced and transparency information platform among different social classes in China.

In this new age of media, media industries will create amazing influence.  Social Media platform such as Facebook, Twitter focus on developing individualized information to have bigger impact on society.  Oversea media industries can change the telecommunication landscape of a country and have a impact on political system.  We will see more changes.
